Once again, how can a broker widen the spread on a futures? It's some kind of kitchen for their clients yes, and spread and leverage and who knows what else. Broker can't widen the spread on futures, only mm.
It has everything to do with the traders actions, but nothing to do with what they do there before or after the news.

Leverage does not go to market(it is a showdown between the broker DC and the client) and there is live money being traded in the market. Are you really so naive as to assume that a broker can lose $500 of their own money to get your 1 quid? Oh, I almost forgot, there's a 2-cent spread...

the subtleties of US law - hedge funds are the riskiest funds and the least regulated - but people who have like 1M of spare cash can invest there...
