The New Industrial Orders index m/m (Nuovi Ordini Industriali in Italian) measures a change in the total value of new orders received by Italian producers from clients in the reported month compared to the previous month.
The index is calculated based on a survey of Italian companies with at least 20 employees. The companies participating in the survey are grouped according to the Alteco 2007 classification. The representative sample is compiled so as to include companies representing at least 70% of the total turnover of the sector.
The total index is calculated as a weighted average of obtained data. No calendar adjustment is applied to the index as calendar effects are considered to be insignificant. The data is published 45 days after the reference period.
New Industrial Orders is a key indicator of Italian production. Higher values of this index reflect that there is an increase in the activity of Italian producers.
In relation to the EUR currency, higher than expected values can be interpreted as positive for the EUR quotes, on the contrary values lower than the forecasts can be considered as negative for the EUR currency.
