There are some self-trained gentlemen
who are airbrush graphite artists. That's how they paint - the output is a picture.
/find a video of graphite artists painting different landscapes -
quite informative/
And it is in this sequence - backgrounds, primers.

Not to mention the special people who draw on the picture from a projector,
substrate, or just photocopies.
