Help is needed to get the "Russian Fires 2010" portal up and running quickly. (russian-fires.ru). - page 47

Firstly, it should have been applied where all living things have long since burned up, and secondly, even if someone had been in the blast zone, they would have been concussed at worst.

I'm not sure if this should go here and not in Humour, but:

And one more interesting fact: according to the Ryazanskie Novosti newspaper, on the morning of August 11 the area of forest fires, extinguished personally by Putin, was transformed beyond recognition - trees damaged by the fire turned green again, and flowers bloomed in the glades. "This can't be explained by any natural causes - under natural conditions the green space couldn't recover so fast, it takes decades. And the flowers that have sprung up are not characteristic of mid-August at all; they bloom in the spring. A true miracle," commented Viktor Pustovoit, the rector of the Academy of Forestry. According to the decision of the Ryazan region administration, a theme park will be created in the place where Putin extinguished the fires, but scientists insist on declaring the area a nature reserve. Well, if flowers are growing on the ashes of the fires, someone needs them. And it doesn't matter who: local officials, Putin, or God.

It's probably a joke, although it's no longer clear where the line is

After the global banter over this flight, the PR tactics will probably be tweaked

The first group of volunteers was formed to extinguish fires

The Sverdlovsk Regional Office of the All-Russian Volunteer Firefighting Society formed the first group of 10 volunteers to extinguish forest and peat fires. They had been briefed on fire safety measures the day before.

The group of volunteers arrived at the Sverdlovsk Regional Office of VDPO by 8:00 a.m. on August 13, where their transportation was already waiting for them. All volunteers were provided with the necessary firefighting equipment, as well as clothing and footwear. The first group of volunteers was sent to the village of Zeleny Bor in the Berezovsky urban district to put out small grass fires, lay hose lines, ploughing and other work.

Meals will be provided at the fire extinguishing site. Volunteers will work all day long, and if the situation is critical, they will continue for as long as necessary, according to the decision of the operational headquarters.

The Sverdlovsk Regional Branch of the All-Russian Volunteer Firefighting Society continues to form groups of volunteers to participate in extinguishing forest and peat fires. It is possible to sign up the volunteers, having called by phone 8904-38-11-377 (Mikhail Anatolyevich Udachin, Methodologist of the Training Centre of Sverdlovsk Regional Branch of VDPO).

Fire spreading across the country could become radioactive

Today [14:13]

Nezavisimaya Gazeta

Smoke-stricken Russians face a new danger - the smog could contain radioactivity and even chemical warfare agents.

On Wednesday, Roslesozaschita and environmentalists confirmed to Interfax the facts of mass fires in radioactive areas of the Russian forest. Fires at chemical weapons depots, which are dangerously close to forests and peat mines, have also not been ruled out.

A representative of the information-analytical department of Roslesozashchita:
- There are maps of pollution, there are maps of fires. Anybody can put one on top of the other. How can this information be refuted?

Thus, fires have been recorded in Kaluga, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, Tula, Orel and Penza Regions. Meanwhile earlier Rospotrebnadzor head Gennady Onishchenko denied the information of Greenpeace organization that the "Chernobyl" forests started to burn in Bryansk region. "There is no need to sow panic. Everything is calm there," Onishchenko said. Also, the Bryansk Region Ministry of Emergency Situations told Interfax that there are no fires in Bryansk forests, which were affected by the Chernobyl accident. Meanwhile, the Russian branch of Greenpeace, citing information from satellites, said that forest fires have started in the Bryansk region in areas affected by the Chernobyl accident.

Meanwhile, chemists have warned of the danger of fires at chemical weapons depots. "Tens of square kilometres of territory would be contaminated if chemical munitions were detonated", said Lev Fedorov, president of the Union for Chemical Safety. One of such depots, he said, is located near forests and peat mines in the settlement of Mirny in the Orichevsky District of the Kirov Region.

I once read an article about a forest fire study in California (I don't seem to remember exactly which state). They scientifically monitored wildfires for decades and separately studied tree slices in different areas. Forest fires are cyclical, the cycles depend partly on climate and partly on forest growth rate. Different species grow at different rates and change with fire. The causes of fires are of course human. After a place has burned, it serves as a natural barrier to the next fire for some time, until it overgrows. This included research into whether artificial fires can prevent them from spreading spontaneously in dry years. Something about the conclusions they missed, or whether there's more harm than good from the fires, I don't know.

My point is that now Shoigo, Medvedev, Putin does not have to worry and does not have to rebuild anything. He will be retired by next time. In general, they don't give a damn, maybe they will "kick" someone, as Sanyok put it.

Yep. Reality show: Who wants to be Vladimir Putin.
