Justify your answer. So he chewed through all the pages of both volumes and one cover of one book? How did he get into the other book?

First he chewed through the pages of volume 1 -- 20 millimeters;
Then he chewed through the cover of volume 1 - 1 mm;
Then he chewed through the cover of volume 2 - 1 mm;
Then he chewed through the pages of volume 2 - 20mm;
--------------
Total: 42 mm

Each cover is 2 mm, according to the condition. Your answer is 44?

I see what the catch is:) I take it back.

And what would you suggest instead, Richie?

Two old ladies walked from town A to town B and from town B to town A at the same time at dawn. At 12 o'clock they met up. Then they continued their journey. One arrived at her destination at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and the other at 9 p.m.
Question: What time did it dawn that day?

4mm or 24mm depending on how the volumes stand.

Well, there's also the possibility that the worm can telepathise or something like that )

Here, I apologise for the poor graphics:

-
To make a long story short, the worm only bit the covers of 2 books.
1 - first page;
P - last page;

There is no description in the conditions of the problem as to how the volumes are turned to each other, so it may as well be 44mm.
