Such networks are less stable than the physical network and they need to be constantly kept in tone ... which my program does every 5 seconds ...

You probably have never hosted anywhere ... for the same server rent you'll get a server, connect it to the customer network and it skit all that comes with its external IP ... ie you have to think about protecting the server and the external Internet and noise in the clients LAN ... and on large sites like M9, bare Windows live something like 30 minutes only ... :)
Regarding the VPS, it is even more complicated problem ... to the total noise from other servers to the clients is added noise from a logical network on the server where your machine ... it's also possible to say the only logical LAN ... and to solve the security issue is much more difficult than the usual LAN ...
