The article is not bad in principle. Yes, there has been talk of increasing the block size for a long time.
As an option, by the way, you could make an exponential scale of commission for the size of the record in the block. Now it seems that there is a minimum (and it is optional) and more for exceeding a certain size.

There is still some reserve, the network can withstand a 2-fold increase in the number of transactions for sure. By the way, just the other day a new maximum of 132900 transactions per day was set.
Regarding miners. Right now the reward is 25bits per block plus about 0.1bits in commissions. In six months to a year the reward will drop to 12.5 bits. As the number of transactions increases, the amount of commissions will increase.
In addition the mining system has a very good and elaborate self-regulation. Just at some point the least efficient miners will leave.
Regarding the size of the base. A problem in principle, but not critical at all. Com. organisations like bitcoin processors, exchanges, etc. yes, will have to keep the whole chain.
Ordinary users can use wallets from the same blockchain or electrum. No need to rock the blocks at all.
