Of course, it is not a full-fledged alternative to SMS. But for some other purposes will do.

It's a great alternative that puts regular SMS on the back burner:

  • it is free, you need internet, but without internet there is no trader
  • it is more guaranteed (especially on international numbers, where a lot of SMS are lost and jammed)
  • it is often faster
  • it is more secure (transmissions over SSL encrypted channels)
  • it is history re-downloadable after an internet connection interruption.

just have to make sense of them in the presence of the internet and will actively use them.

Think about sending an SMS to any randomly selected phone number anywhere in the world and you will immediately understand the limitations.

You know you're talking about a purely private and unknowingly working caveman method of SMS mail gateway, but you're making statements designed for the masses.

We are talking about a mass service around the world here. Criticising SMS mail gateways doesn't even want to - it's such a backward and unworkable method.

Criticising and replacing it is the SMS itself, the time for which is already passing. First Blackberry took the first shot at SMS with its free messaging, then Apple came up with Messages (cool compared to SMS) and then Push notifications went live.

Totally unknown yes. It's not like it's my job to know how it works. I'm a user.

Again, I do not make any claims, what is better, what is worse...

A simple conclusion that phones with Android and iOS is not a mass phenomenon, so if anyone needs a service for getting feedback on the phone, then SMS here works massively.

And then the natural process of upgrading the devices and the subsequent use of new technology, but not now, in spite of all the market analyses.

 
You should give a link to the shares of android and iPhones. This is exactly the mass sector.
