LuminaFX is a fully automated advisor which trades 9 symbols from one chart: AUDCAD, AUDUSD, EURUSD, GBPCHF, GBPUSD, NZDUSD, USDCAD, USDCHF, USDJPY, and USDSEK. The advisor implements a popular version of the recurrent neural model. Values of the American Dollar Index DXY, or "Dixie", are used as inputs to the neural model.
Unlike my another popular advisor QuantumPip, LuminaFX uses a sequential order of bars comprising monthly, weekly, and daily data.
Make sure you have the 6 symbols making up the American Dollar Index in your terminal: EURUSD, USDJPY, GBPUSD, USDCAD, USDSEK, and USDCHF. Otherwise the advisor will not work properly. Sometimes, USDSEK is available but not tradeable in the terminal. This is ok, too, because the advisor only needs price data.
Take a closer look at the "Neural model" property. I added this property to show that I know how to draw a nice historical chart. Many users falsely believe that a good strategy is the one which draws a perfect or a near perfect historical chart. The theory and practice of machine learning have always proved otherwise. In fact, the better a neural model memorized history, the worse it can classify or forecast unseen data, in this case - price expectations on Forex.
In the Strategy Tester, choose the option "Nice_historical_chart" and you will see that a beautiful curve makes you feel so joyful. Wow, what if Forex could actually bring so much profit! I strongly recommend against Nice_historical_chart for live trading. You should use the option Live_trading, instead, for your live trading.
I explain briefly the difference between the 2 approaches - Nice_historical_chart and Live_trading - in the pictures below. A nice neural model has a loss value of 0.01-0.05 in training and 1.0-1.5 in testing. Not surprisingly, forecasts of a nice neural model on unseen data can be 100-150 times worse than on the memorized history!
You can download a free indicator IDixie and put it on one chart with the advisor LuminaFX. IDixie calculates close prices of the American Dollar Index, which is used in the advisor, and it also shows a moving average. The free indicator IDixie can be useful because it visualizes trading decisions by the advisor LuminaFX.
Start the advisor in one chart of any symbol. The advisor always trades all its symbols from one chart, regardless of your current chart.
The advisor trades using daily data. So you can use both "All ticks" or "1 minute OHLC". You can substaintially decrease the testing time using the latter option.
Recommendations for live trading
- Chart EURUSD D1
- Deposit 500 USD (even better 1500 USD)
- Accounting = Smart_netting
- Neural model = Live_trading
- Max trades per signal = 2
Properties of the advisor
- Accounting >> Smart_netting - does not open opposite trades, it can close a positive profit when an opposite signal is forecasted. Netting - does not open opposite trades, it can close both a positive profit and a negative profit when an opposite signal is forecasted. Hedging - can open opposite trades.
- Neural model >> Either Nice_historical_chart or Live_trading. I added this property so that users do not think that my advisor cannot draw a nice historical chart. Unlike many sellers on this market, I do not want to sell scam, and so I do not recommend using the option Nice_historical_chart for your live trading. The nature of machine learning tells us that the better a neural model memorized history, the worse it forecasts the future or new expectations. Therefore, I recommend using the option Live_trading for your live trading.
- Max trades per signal >> max number of trades for a similar signal. If a signal repeats, the advisor keeps opening similar trades until it reaches the max number.
- Suffix for symbols >> it can be handy for those who have symbols with different suffixes in their terminal. Most users can leave this field empty.
- Takeprofit
- Trail
- Stoploss >> the advisor closes trades according to its calculations. Using a stoploss is nominal.
- Zero >> zero in pips. It sets the stoploss at the open price if a trade does not make a profit.
- Volume >> volume per trade. Fixed volume (example: 0.02) or percentage of available funds (example: 0.015%). The EA prints the real volume on the "Expert Advisors" tab when starting or changing the timeframe. Always use a fixed amount for accounts that use a deposit currency other than the US dollar (i.e. euro, yuan, bitcoin, Australian dollar, etc.).
- Flags of symbols >> many users ask to allow switching on/off symbols. I do not recommend switching off symbols of 1-2 months of trading. Many symbols are required for diversification. It is when these symbols works this month, while the other symbols work the next month. By alternating their profitability in different months, the advisor has the highest chance of stacking up profits long-term.
Risk management
The advisor LuminaFX opens a lot of trades with default settings. The property "Max trades per signal" increases or decreases the number of trades. More risk means more profit opportunities, but it also means a higher probability of a deep drawdown. To minimize a possible drawdown, set Max = 1.
The property "Volume" is calculated by default as 0.01 for 1000 of USD in your deposit. Thus, Volume = 0.02 for 2000 USD in your deposit and so on. The advisor prints the actual volume in the "Experts" tab upon start or when you switch timeframes. You can use a fixed volume, for example, Volume = 0.01 (without a percentage) for a deposit of 2000 USD and minimize the risk even more.
