MQL5 VPS vs other VPS systems

Hi all. I am quite new to forex trading, and have only heard about VPS recently.

I have bought an EA which I am keen to test, the developer recommends his own VPS. What are the disadvantages of using MQL5 VPS? How does it compare to other VPS?

Also, is installing and running a VPS difficult for a new user?

I would be grateful for any suggestion, if you have had personal experience of this matter.

Here you can read the advantages of MQL5 VPS compared to ordinary VPS:

OK, I got corrected, you can run 32 EAs on your so called "VPS" (marketing baut?)
IMHO it is still not a VPS as one would known from OS hosting provider.

Btw. feel free to disagree/clarify, but do not misuse your admin power ;) by deleting other's opinion.
What a pity forum is this.

If you had read my previous post and the information provided, you would know that MQL5 VPS is a highly capable solution for running your trading tools.

Instead, you seem to be reiterating a pre-formed opinion about MQL5.com products and services.

My point is, it is a mis-named service, intentionally confusing people by calling VPS.
On real VPS you can install/run and use whatever you need almost like own server/pc.
No DLL limitation, no number of trading account limitation.

That mql5.com provides a virtual services to run EA, it is GREAT, thanks for that feature.
But please ... no need to use marketing bait technique.
Just be PROUD of your special service.

IMHO.
FYI:
I also rented once that service but totally overwhelm of wrong expectation.
It''s a GREAT service, I just wish there would be some visual UI / friendlier monitoring feature.

I wish mql5.com all the best with the virtual terminal service.

MQL5 VPS is designed to provide a streamlined environment specifically for trading tools, and while it may not offer the same flexibility as traditional VPS services, it aims to meet the needs of traders quite effectively.

DLL calls can introduce vulnerabilities, as malicious code could potentially gain access to sensitive information or disrupt the functioning of your trading tools. By limiting DLL usage, MQL5 VPS enhances the stability of the trading environment. This ensures that your Expert Advisors and trading strategies run smoothly without interference from external applications. The restriction on DLL calls is a proactive measure to safeguard users, particularly those who may not be familiar with the potential dangers of using third-party libraries in their trading setups.

Click Bait would be calling it something like VTS Virtual Trading Server (haha). And while it is definitely a VPS; not giving it a more appropriate and recognisable name, mq has done themselves, yet, another disservice.

In case that you are more confused by the above comments -- here is my opinion on using both types of vps...

The mql5 vps is great so long as you 1) backup your profile after you have migrated it to the mql5 "vps". 2) you cant use DLLs so you have to guarantee that your ea does not require them. If your ea requires a dll -- OR NOT -- is not always obvious -- you will want to speak to the author to be 100% sure. 3) There are many threads on this website that have discussions about servers in strange places that are not online on Mondays, when you would expect them to be working, so you need to test out and monitor your vps for first weeks to check that all is running 100%. But "all in all" it is more convenient to monitor this vps, than it may be to login with your remote desktop program to login to a "real" vps.

A "real vps", you can run multiple platforms on 1 vps, and 1 single cost. Whereas the mql5 vps, you may need to buy multiple vps'es and multiple vps subscriptions if you run mt4/5 on 2 or more brokers. the mql5 vps will only allow 1 terminal, therefore only 1 broker can be installed on a mql5 vps.

I used a mql5 vps for a time, and it was very convenient to monitor the account from mt5, however, I jump between 4 computers and locations, and it just was not always possible to install mt5 on that computer or my working laptop at these multiple locations, so it became an issue for me. I went back to a traditional vps. However, if I was only trading 1 ea, at 1 broker, and I had a laptop or tablet that was dedicated for mt4/5 installation and trading, for me to just monitor that trading account and the vps, then, I would have been very happy to continue with my mql5 vps, subscription.

As for "difficulty for new user". Both have learning curves that every user has to adjust to, and I being a computer techie for 17 years, still, had a sharp learning curve to make when I first installed my mql5 vps, however, other users would have the same sharp learning curve to setup and run a "real vps" too. "real vps" providers give you a vps, and your username and password, but do not tell you that the vps will go into sleep mode or that mt4/5 may not start up automaticly when you login, or depending on the vps provider, your mt4/5 may not restart again, after the provider has done maintenance. These can be fixed by the user, however, the provider will not inform you when mt4/5 has closed for whatever reason, therefore the user has to modify windows settings on the vps to ensure that it does start up on its own, and that mt4/5 will restart automaticly.

But like i said prevously the mql5 vps has its own issues. These can be found by a search of the website. There are instances when the mql5 vps did not start on Monday, but was running on Tuesday, OR, the ea did not open trades for days, until the user opened a ticket on this website, when the support team restarted the mql5 vps. This would take more than a week, when such support ticket with a "real vps" would normally take 24 - 48 hours.

In Conclusion, (heehee), both flavours of vps has their prickles, you may need to try both before settling on your own preference.

I 'appreciate' your enthusiasm in discussing the disadvantages of MQL5 VPS. However, I wonder why the numerous issues associated with ordinary VPS solutions, such as frequent disconnections, uptime problems, and server restarts, are left unmentioned.

A sufficiently powerful VPS capable of supporting multiple MT4/5 trading environments can be significantly more expensive than a single MQL5 VPS subscription, leading us back to the same conclusion.

Additionally, I’m curious about your comment regarding the inability to manage your MQL5 VPS subscriptions from a single computer. It is entirely feasible to monitor multiple MQL5 VPS subscriptions from one or several MT4/5 terminals.

all valid points. All the more reason for mq to create a trademark name for it so it is not confused with the traditional vps.

But also note that I did comment on disadvantages of both vps'es.

What is the definition of a VPS, I wonder?

I believe the MQL5 VPS qualifies as a virtual private server, allowing your trading tools to operate seamlessly 24/7.
