The reasons behind the current situation of unchanging power and the people who personify that power are deeper and more fundamental, and have nothing to do with the nonsense that the loudmouths from their bog-stands are trying to spread. The main difference between "western" democracy and our Russian version lies in the people themselves, in society as a whole. It takes decades and several generations to bring up a mature, democratic society. Right now, we're closer to the beginning than even to the middle of the road. We passed the "nursery-kindergarten" in the 90s, and in 12 years must complete "primary school". But for today, a normal, democratic continuity of power is simply not possible. Our society is now too undeveloped to produce even one alternative strong politician to lead Russia, even once every six years. The vagueness of the opposition's slogans and thoughts is direct proof of this. And in fact we are lucky that Putin came to power. Lucky, because when such enormous power is concentrated in one hands, an authoritarian regime usually begins: new camps are built for hundreds of thousands of political prisoners, any opposition movements are harshly suppressed, and the instigators quickly disappear. And Putin, despite all his powers, has not gone down this road - and for that alone he should be respected. We are living in an extremely unstable and dangerous period. The new, strong, democratic society has not yet been formed. Right now it cannot stand up for itself and exercise its power. But it can very easily descend into authoritarianism and hysteria. Keeping this society from falling into a "revolution" or autocracy also costs a lot, and I cannot say that Putin has failed to do this.

Vasily, are these your thoughts, or are the inverted commas missing somewhere?

No b**t, Putin dictated it to me while I was writing it down at gunpoint.

No b**t, it was Putin who dictated to me while I was taking notes at gunpoint.

Thanks :) I guess I'm thinking.

That's why I voted for Prokhorov.

C-4: We went through "nursery school" in the 90s and in 12 years should be completing "primary school".

Are you daydreaming again?

In the 90s, we experienced lawlessness on the part of the state that refused to protect the rights of its citizens, which led to regular non-payment of wages and pensions, which in turn reduced the number of older people, and completely discouraged people of working age from having children.

Awesome crèche )))))

SZS: My younger brother born in 89 at his school was the last year when there were two or more classes in one year, after him only in 2010 there were 2 classes of first graders, but kids were divided strategically: by 12 and 14 people in each class, until 90-s there were always 3 classes of 22-25 people in that school. I do not even want to speculate on the topic "primary school"..... Come back to earth, and do not flit in the clouds of information from the media.

SZZ: What makes you think there is politics in Russia and a political system in general? There is a clan fight over spheres of interest and there is a show on the media. For some unknown reason, the parties not controlled by the Kremlin have disappeared from the Duma. Where did Yabloko, the SPS and Rodina all disappear at once? Why in recent years have virtually all the representatives of medium-sized businesses and heads of large factories suddenly joined the United Russia, suddenly "itching" to take part in political life, when before that there was no interest?

You can see very well from the posts of those present. Those who are now at least somehow, thinly or thinly "standing at the feeding trough", and those on whose necks those "standing at the feeding trough" are sitting!

I think there is no point in arguing with one over the other. All are right!

Those "who are fed" ask not to rock the boat and sing the praises of Putin ("... if not him, then who?"). They are right in their own way. Sitting on other people's necks, "sawing off dough", taking bribes and kickbacks, crushing people on the roads and rigging elections - those are their privileges and it would be foolish to give them up. Many gained these rights in an uphill struggle. And they will defend themselves by all means and by all means ("everything to friends, everything to enemies"!).

All others (most of them, including myself), are those on whose necks the so-called "elite" and its cronies sit. The "elite and their closest lizards" do not want to be fooled by cattle, and that is natural too.

But it is useless to argue. One will not understand the other. We are only getting on each other's nerves.

I've come across a selection of old photos, I'm not feeling nostalgic as I was a kid back then, but the people in the photos evoke interesting feelings compared to today's people - they look like at least aliens :), or maybe "dinosaurs" who died out in the 90s.....

People are like people. Most of them survived.

Have you thought about who prevented the country from descending into total chaos in the 1990s? It was these very Soviet dinosaurs: teachers, doctors, engineers, teachers. Who worked for a penny or for free at the time when working in a kiosk meant earning a good living. Now no one will work for free anymore, chaos is coming again, but not as fast as then, but gradually.

Their ideals now seem naive and ridiculous to us, but try to look at what the modern ideals of the majority look like. Money, money and money again. Isn't it silly, isn't it naive? Not ridiculous for sure.

tara: People are like people. Most of them survived.
Not human faces, haven't seen people with a natural smile in a long time, either a scary grin or a strained smile, though more often a foaming animal grin or a poker face in the endless queues for certificates or at the health centre
