DmitriyN: As for electric arc processes occurring at high electric current densities (arcs) and processes occurring in a vacuum, it has long been known to all that nuclear reactions, including those with energy release, take place there as well.

I am not aware of that.

The energy density, even in the arc, is too low to initiate elemental transformation reactions in detectable quantities. This is where Tokamaks and lasers are needed.

P.S. Nuclear reactions can happen in ordinary soup, it is clear. But their contribution to the total energy balance is so negligible that they can be ignored.

Not true. I know for a fact.
