The most likely answer is Over-fitting. Many EAs are created to ‘learn’ and adapt perfectly to the available historical data, but they fail to predict the future due to a lack of generalizability in the constructed model.

Some developers simply don't know about the existence of over-fitting, or they know but don't have a way to prevent it. Others exploit it as a tool to beautify their backtest results, they add dozens of input parameters without considering statistical significance, making the trading strategy excessively tailored to historical data and attempting to convince others that their EA can achieve similar performance in the future.

There are several ways to avoid losing money on an expert advisor whose only ‘edge’ is reading past data, and the easiest way is NEVER TO USE AN EXPERT ADVISOR WITHOUT LIVE TRADING RESULTS FOR AT LEAST 5 MONTHS OR 300 TRACKED TRADES, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER IT IS FREE OR HAS GOOD BACKTEST RESULTS. Monitoring the performance of live trades is the simplest way to observe the performance of an EA with data it has never seen before.

Boring Pips optimization process - A rigorous validation process that creates a difference.

Boring Pips undergoes a comprehensive and tailor-made optimization process called Anti-overfitting. This is a robust optimization process implemented to eliminate any influence of overfitting on the trading system, ensuring the generality of the constructed model. Please refer to the article linked in Part 2 above for a more in-depth look at this process.

Anti-overfitting process consists of 3 stages:

-  Initial Optimization: This stage involves optimizing the Boring Pips using historical data from 2010 to 2019. The purpose of this phase is to test the initial premise of the trading strategy and extract the most robust parameters values.

-  Walk-forward: In the second stage, the parameters that performed well in the first stage are tested using entirely new data ranging from 2019 to 2022. The objective is to ensure the trading system's stability with fresh data and evaluate the predictive power of the model.

-  Stress testing: Parameter values that pass the first two stages will undergo Stress testing. In this final test, a simulation algorithm is used to introduce variables like Noise and Lag to the initial entry and exit points (determined by the selected parameters from Walk-forward phase). The goal is to push the system beyond its 'comfort zone' and assess the system's tolerance to random factors such as lag and noise.

Introduction to Boring Pips algorithm

Boring Pips trading system is a blend of cutting-edge artificial intelligence algorithms and classic trading strategies involving: momentum, supply - demand zones and Fibonaci retracement. Specifically, the EA employs an advanced formula based on deep learning algorithms to simultaneously measure the momentum of prices across 4 time-frames. Must say, this is one of the best EA'S i've bought. This is not my main account I bought it with another account to avoid VAT costs. But the seller is really helpfull. Answers to all your questions. So far its really consisent. No really big DD either. If you want to buy any EA. I would say you should try this one. Min deposit 1k, start on boring mode or medium risk.

This is one of two bots I have bought on MLQ5 that I trust to leave my money with on a passive basis. It's a brilliant design and Thi is such a gentleman and really clear in his communication and support. This paid for itself very quickly and serves as a reliable and profitable foundation for my algo trading. I use other EAs with it but I give them much less capital to trade than Boring - it's just very sensibly and elegantly designed. I have been trying a lot of EAs on the pas tyears. Boring pips is almost bulletproof if you understand how it works and manage money wisely. The author brings solid and permanent support. I can say it's one of the smartest grid strategy out there, I use it for long term with decent gains over the past months. My only advice would be to go low risk with 50 up to 60% of acc balance, just in case you end up in tough positions. Last but not least, the author is bringing continuous improvements and it feels good as a retail trader to feel that levels of professionalism from a seller. 100% trusted and recommended.

Honestly It isn't working for me as it works in the strategy tests, I'm running it for 3.5 months in multiple accounts, all are negative. I'm skeptical, I changed the settings to don't open new positions, I will be removing it when it finishes its currently opened positions, I definitively don't recommend, there are many better EAs even cheaper than this one. I'm sorry, I don't trusts its strategy tests, looks manipulated for me.

Even though I am very skeptical about EA's with Grid/Martingale strategy, BoringPips has been generating a constant profit on my account for over half a year now - 10/2023-05/2024. If you follow the developer's recommendations, your account is safe. A very stable strategy in the long term. Of course, I recommend checking it out first on the demo and then on the live one. I bought the EA about three weeks ago. It didn't work at all on Pepperstone. Deriv etc. Reason is that it is not compatible with euro accounts. I contacted Pepperstone and other platforms and they told me that there is no conversion from euro account to usd account. so I lost $499. If I am compensated or if EA starts to be compatible with eur account and it is profitable I will change the rating. Please note that I have too many EAs, expensive and less expensive, even free, and none of them have had this issue.

This EA has a great strategy in theory as posted by the author's 2 articles. The theory behind it is to avoid overfitting the market so it can be profitable in many market conditions and over a long period of time. So far over a year and a half track record with all positive months is a very good start. I really enjoy the authors transparency with the 2 track records, #1 on MQL5 signals and #2 on Myfxbook. This is very high quality and anyone who is experienced in buying EAs knows this is rare for this amount of time. Only other similar bot with a long track record is Waka Waka and its a great comparison because they trade the same exact pairs. I'd say this EA is better than Waka Waka though, because it trades the same pairs but with more profits, lower dd, and a cheaper sales price. Showing how it scaled in and out of the 2024 March-April drawdown on AUDNZD that both EAs experienced simultaneously. It definitely outperformed waka in the drawdown and profit metrics due to the long trend that had little to no pullbacks reverting to the mean. I love this bot so far and I will update this review when more good or bad things happen. I love reading reviews that are updated every so often so I bet others would like that too. SO FAR, 5 STARS

Been using Boring Pips with great results for more than 6 month, one of the few gems in mql5 market, i recomend the EA 100% i use risk settings but you can use medium risk and make good profits too!!

Update 5-8-24: Just one opinión, use high risk even with less 100% of the account with the current market situation is very dangerous, medium is ok and low. be carefull

I have purchased plenty of EAs and Boring Pips is one of my favorite EAs so far. Although this EA uses a grid / martingale system, I consider it quite safe. The live results match the backtests and even with "high risk" I haven't had a drawdown of more than 3% within 2 months of live using (backtests of more than 5 years show a maximum drawdown of around 30%). I definitely recommend this EA and hope that the developer will develop another EA which is as good as this one.

This ea is automatic.. It's systematic.. It's hygromatic.. Well it's the great boring pips.. At first i attach it, it does not trade often.. But after i backtested it again and change my broker, it shows a significant differences. My conclusion to this ea, it should be use on suitable broker, different broker will give different result, maybe it has a sensitivity to spreads (maybe). The MT5 and MT4 version shows a bit differences on open trades in the backtests, perhaps it caused by the brokers also.. (Will do another research again with a couple of brokers, and i will update it here). Andy the author is very kind, he answered all my questions and concerns, very passionate person i think. Honestly, i really am an annoying person when related to ea, because there are so many scammers here on mql5. But not with Andy, he logically answered all of my questions and make me understand..
