Is it possible to run MT4 with EA's on a server so I don't depend on my internet connection / computer?

Yes, using VPS. See in the forum.

A VPS is just like your home PC. No special setup is needed for basic operation.
Choose one with Windows Server 2003 with Remote Desktop Protocol, that will be the same as XP from your point of view.

There is a Linux thread also on the mql4.com forums though...

Speaking about the forums: just use search on "VPS". Here is one result on VPS:
