Ask Price displayed different from traded?

I have been testing MT5 with Pepperstone for the last couple of weeks. Generally been fine but I have noticed this happen twice now. This is example of first time. I placed a buy order 16 minutes into the new day and instead of giving me the buy price that was listed it bought way above the price?? Now this happened again couple of nights later. Similar time of the day when the price I bought at was above the price listed in MT5 quotes?

Not a major issue as I am currently working on a demo account but a pretty major one for anyone trading live? Is this a known problem? I ran both trades from my iPhone just to give as much info to you as possible.

Anyone else experience this? Am I going over old ground?

Quotes prices (and the spread) is constantly changing especially on Major forex pairs during major volatility times. So, any little bit of delay or network latency can cause slippage and the resulting order to be filled at a different price. Trading on a mobile device can be especially prone this because of high network latency.

Also please be aware how orders are processed and how spread affects the open and close prices of orders. There is a Ask price and a Bid price. Charts only shows the bars/candles based on Bid prices.

  • A "buy" position opens at the Ask price and closes at the Bid price.
  • A "sell" position opens at the Bid price and closes at the Ask price.
On your mobile device enable the Ask price line to be displayed as well so you can see where Buy orders will open and Sell positions will close (Settings → Charts → Ask Price line).

Thanks for the answers and advice. Seems odd that I experienced it at same time of day but perhaps that down to the latency of the connection. Perhaps there was a particular disparity between ask and bid although I hadn't thought so at the time - I opened the position from quotes page. Hmm anyway if its not something thats widespread then must be a localised issue to me. User fault as appose to system. I will be more careful with it and perhaps knock the iPhone trades on the head.

Thanks again.
