Phase velocity is a purely abstract mathematical concept; it is not related to the movement of anything material in space.

The group velocity is related to the displacement in space of a perturbation of fixed amplitude; since the energy of the wave is related to its amplitude, the group velocity is the speed of propagation of energy in space.

In general, phase velocity can exceed the speed of light (in the case of, for example, electromagnetic waves, or De Broglie waves). The group velocity, in full agreement with the theory of relativity, is always less than or equal to the speed of light.


Actually, the speed of light is the geometric mean of the phase velocity and the group velocity. Well, the fact that perturbation can be transported in nonlinear media faster than the speed of light was experimentally shown as early as the 60's of last century. And there is no violation of causal relations or disagreement with GR or STR at it is not observed ;)

I have recently implemented the function calculating the inverse matrix based on LU decomposition in MQL4.

If you still need the source codes, I can post them here or send them to you by mail.
