Scientist A. Semihatov wants to ask aliens about the number of pi...
Reverse situation. Like in the film "Kin-dza-dza" 4th minute of the film. The alien asks the student and the foreman for information about the Earth.
What can be said about the Earth. Obviously this must be a category of information that all knowledge systems, all leaders and parliaments recognise as true. That information is numbers.
Indeed. If you abolish the multiplication table, the whole trade would collapse because the seller and the buyer would have different opinions about the change due.
Whichever circle is big, small, red, green - the length of the circle divided by the diameter equals pi=3.14...
Wherever it does not change: population, radioactive decay, calculation of percentages - the coefficient will be e=2.718....
The universe catalogue of worlds should have these numbers in the name of our planet. There is something to answer the aliens.

It's in decimal 3.14. They probably need to send the knowledge in binary code, in case they don't have ten fingers).

Yes, a question. If aliens managed to fly to Earth, they must know that the representation of a number is irrelevant. And the binary code is supposed to know. But that's not certain. The USSR made a ternary computer.

What if it is an amoeba and can generate as many fingers as it needs to optimally solve a particular problem? Can you imagine floating point maths!

Here's an example of how to translate the arrows to something else...
Or haven't you noticed what they're talking about...?
As a former electronics engineer, I have always wondered why dynamic memory is made binary. In simple terms, a dynamic RAM cell (which is all DDR1...DDR5 type memory) is a field-effect transistor based capacitor and the 0/1 value is determined by the charge being pumped into it. But what prevents the charge from being pumped in portions? Then it would be fashionable to store not only two states, 0-no charge and 1-have charge, but also several states in a cell (obviously, it depends on the technology). Of course, there is more difficulty, but the benefit is also there. However, nobody seems to have gone down this route.
Monitoring has not been updated since last week, is it bad again?)
