Use ex4 file on MT4 in Win10

Good morning to everyone,
how can I run an ex4 file (I don't have the mq4 file to compile it) on MT4 in windows 10? The software does not recognise the file, but when I try to buy it on the market it says that it needs Metatrader 4 for Windows in order to run.

download Metatrader 4 (MT4) from a broker, then install the file in the MQL4 folder and run it through the MT4 terminal
