EA activation used on already activated computer

So an EA I had already activated on my laptop ended up using another activation when I went to install it on a different terminal on the same laptop, as I only had 3 activation's left this is kind of frustrating to say the least.
It's supposed to be one activation per machine right?
Anyone know why this would of happened and if there's a chance i can recoup this activation?
