How to keep trend lines when applying a template?

So every time i want to appply a chart template to a chart that I drawn trend lines ,the trend lines disappear when I load a chart template. How do I go about keeping them ?

1. Copy the objects to a new chart (File, Resource, GlobalVariable) - script.
2. Apply the template.
3. Copy back the objects, closing the new chart (File, Resource, GlobalVariable) - script.

pls throw more light. explain, i dont understand and am having the same problem and needs help.  i canot find resource, globalvariable-scripts, thanks
