Open Positions after closing MT4.

Hi,

Do the open-positions opened by an EA close when MT4 platform goes down?

It seems the MetaQuotes MT4 platform keeps the positions even after shutting down. But I am not sure how the EA will manage this position now, since EA runs on the client(my computer). So basically, is it that its a hanging open position thats not managed by the EA anymore?

Thanks,

JForex.

When your MT4 terminal is disconnected or closed, the open position will not be managed anymore. The EA has no way to control the positions. Anyhow, broker will close the position when price touches the stop loss or take profit that had been set, or when your account equity falls below broker's margin requirement.

If your computer or internet connection can't run 24/7, you should host your EAs elsewhere in an industry-standard data center. It should cost from $80 to $220/month for a dedicated server with 10mbps connection. There are some cheap VPS on the internet, but VPS is slow, and most web hosts will configure the server to automatically shut down all programs running in remote desktop session, unless you can persuade them to make an exception for you.

You might also want to run your EAs directly with the broker. Forex.com currently offers free 24/7 EA hosting to its clients. Their promotion is valid until Feb 28th.
