do you use tickstory free or paid version?
I thought mt4 now provides trus ticks too. Or is it only mt5?
mt5 can use ticks if the broker provides them. For mt4 you have to create the tick-data yourself.
I thought the ticks of mt5 are provided by methaquotes and not the broker?

free so far. I only discovered the programme through Carl's hint. Then again, so far there's nothing I would miss about it. I now have 13 years of history data to play with and whilst they're not from my actual broker, they give a fairly good impression of how an EA behaves in different market conditions.
My solution: I have an external usb-drive and I use Birt's script to create only the tickdata fxtfiles I need. To access the files there I have to use the Windows-functions.
Beside that I use Schinagl's Link Shell Extension so that all mt4 running on my pc can share the same tester\history-folder.
Is creating symlinks/hardlinks also possible for MT5?
I am trying to access the same historical data with two different terminals for backtestings my strategy. it works fine with MT4.
I created symlink for the 'Bases' folder to share and use the same historical data with the second terminal, but I can't access the data at the same time. terminal returns "History 'XAUUSD_MB' file opening or reading error [32]".
I tried to change .hcc files permission to Read-only and this time got error "History 'XAUUSD_MB' file opening or reading error [5]".
how can I share historical data for a different MT5 terminal?
