MT4 missing 'files' folder in experts tab.

This is a first post for me. I have very basic knowledge of MT4 as have only been trading a few years.

So I have 2 different MT4 applications installed on my Windows 7 computer. (2 brokers).

I have usually had no problem with placing expert advisor files into the desired MT4 folders (Experts, Indicators, Libraries etc). But on this occasion, whilst trying to locate the 'files' folder in the experts tab, I cannot find it.

I have tried everything, uninstalling all the MT4 applications on my PC with all the personal data and deleting them in the directory file (:C). I have then reinstalled one of them, still no 'files' folder in experts tab.

I have tried not using program files as the typical destination, and installing them into their very own folder in the C drive 'MT4Applications' for example. Still no 'files' folder in experts tab.

Where am I going wrong? The only files that are typically in the experts tab are the normal ones, like indicators, libraries, include, samples, scripts etc. But no 'files' folder.

Note: When I have unistalled all MT4 applications, I still have 2 copied versions running on my VPS. I imagine this would not effect anything on my desktop as it's separate?

The other thing which I find annoying sometimes, is I like to rename my MT4 directories and shortcuts so I don't get confused, and this can sometimes mess things up with regards to the icon disappearing etc. So anyway, my main problem at the moment is the files folder, the below image shows my directory right after installation without that folder. Does anyone know the problem? Thanks in advance to any replies.

Hi Raptor,

Version 4.00 Build 509 (24 June 2013)

This is an update to this problem to help anybody who comes across this in the future as I am hoping I have sussed it out for now (Fingers crossed).

If your 'files' folder is missing in the build 509 MT4 application experts folder (Or any MT4 build I don't know) and you are using Windows 7 (And maybe the same on Vista) it's a UAC issue which RaptorUK kindly pointed me too.

1: Go to START on your desktop, type in UAC, and turn off UAC settings.

2: When you reinstall your MT4 (You must uninstall it first), make sure you don't change file location. Basically don't mess with the directory name.

3: I also found it works better if you tick 'create desktop' and 'launch application after installation'.

4: You should now see the 'files' folder in the MT4 experts tab.

NOTE: Always a good idea to do a disk cleanup and defragmentation in between unistalling MT4 and finally reinstalling it.

I would not advise you to turn off UAC . . . instead do what is suggested in many many threads . . . install outside of Program Files.

Is there any effects of turning off UAC Raptor? I will also try what you have advised, thanks again.

If you don't know what is the effects, then my advice is "don't turn it off". I mean, if you can't found the effects by yourself, then you need UAC.

It makes your OS more vulnerable to Malware . ..

Ok, I will try it by installing it outside program files like Raptor suggests. It's just the only way I have found that it works is turning the UAC to 'Never notify'. Also by not renaming the directory files straight away with create desktop and launch after installation ticked.
