But the work is the clients idea. Client gives you an idea of a trading system then pays you to code it but then you encrypt and copyright it as yours. Doesnt seem right to me.
There is no right or wrong,  if the client wanted the source code it was probably open to negotiation.
 
Maybe the client didnt know it will come out encrypted and copyrighted limiting then from redistributing and benefiting from their own idea.
