'Volume' of what?

What 'Volume' (/bar) that is shown at the bottom of the MT4 charts does this actually refer to?

1 - Ticks/bar

2 - Trade volume? If so what type of 'volume'?

a - # Lots?

b - # Trades?

c - Monetary value?  If so, what is used for the 'valuation' of this?

OR ???
