traveling stop acting badly

Is anyone having this problem or am I setting up a trailing stop incorrectly???

Let's say that I set a trailing stop at 30 pips.

The price action starts to move in the direction of my position, lets say 5 pips.

Suddenly the stop I had set changes to within 5 pips of the current price.

This happens EVERY time I try to use the traveling stop!

I have had several trades closed out prematurely because of this.

Am I doing something wrong!

Maybe your 'traveling' stop calculates in Points? How many digits has your broker? Where is your code?
Try 300 and check it does what you expect.
