How much money in your traders account?
You just cant generalise - its not like futures with fixed (large) contract sizes where you might need 100k to play!
How much have you got?
How much are you willing to lose if it all goes TU?
What is the Profit Factor and win/loss % of the system you are going to use?
You can start with a 100 units in a micro or 1k in a mini but thats a bit tight unless your system is really good
