Strong Chinese foreign trade data published during the Asian session worsened sentiment in the foreign exchange market ahead of the inflation data tomorrow. During the Asian session traders actively sold risky currencies (EUR, AUD) and showed increased interest in quality (Treasuries). The main point here is whether the People's Bank of China will raise interest rates amid rising inflation risks in the country.

US 10-year prices have once again hit local highs, thus reflecting investors' risk aversion against the backdrop of possible monetary policy tightening in China in the near future as well as the intensification of Eurozone debt problems.

In the Forex environment, both of the above factors will support the US dollar over the next one to two weeks. In case of Eurozone debt problems, keep an eye on the EU finance ministers meeting on May 16-17. The emergence of any agreement on the Greek debt could momentarily cause the USD to sell against the EUR.

-- May 11: Greek trade unions hold 24-hour strike to protest fiscal discipline measures
-- May 13: Portugal releases preliminary Q1 GDP results
-- May 13: EU releases semi-annual economic forecasts
-- May 13: Finnish parliament votes on financial aid for Portugal
-- May 16/17: Eurozone finance ministers meeting in Brussels
-- May 18: Portugal auctions E750 million in 6- and 12-month treasury billsE1.5bn.
-- 20 May: Spain repays E7.906bn in treasury bills.
