Can't send email through Gmail SMTP

I'm on Demo account.  Should I be able to configure email?   Gmail requires SSL or TLS.  Could this be the issue?   Thanks

Did you allow "less secure apps" from your gmail account?
 
Gmail and gmx must be configured (on their site,) to allow external application ("Allow less secure applications.")
