Let me guess : you are trying to use very short ema periods. It wont work for those (the ratio will be wildly different for long and short period of ratio calculation in those cases and then you get that stuff). Standard deviation ratio method is not suitable for short periods - I guess that it is the one of reasons why it is not wide spread)
