The UK currency is easing back from recent highs in mid-afternoon trade in London.
We found the gains witnessed in the morning session quite surprising in light of the fact they seemed to almost guarantee the Remain vote had won, despite the fact voting had just gotten underway.
In Southern England, commuters woke up to heavy rain, lighting, and cancelled trains.
A bad omen perhaps, but for which side of the vote?
There has been talk of adverse weather being bad for Remain as this camp is thought to be less determined than the Brexiteers.
There is also the added danger for Remain that people decide to note go and vote having looked at the reaction of the financial markets and read that there is an +80% chance Remain will win.
The BBC will publish YouGov’s Call Back Poll, which would give an indication that an unexpected Brexit vote was coming.
A similar poll conducted on the day of the 2014 Scottish independence referendum came within 1% of the actual result.
