Stocks try to recover
Hopes, that during the Friday speech, Fed chief will announce measures to support economic growth in the U.S., are the only chance to stabilize the financial markets in the short term. We could have observed it yesterday. However, because of the fear during the last three hours of the session on Wall Street, American indexes ended the day only slightly above the opening level. S&P500 index gained only 0.03%. DJIA rose by 0.34% and Nasdaq by 0.15%.
Record gold prices
The fear, which did not allow U.S. indexes to raise firmly, pushed gold prices on the new record levels. Tonight the price of gold reached the psychological barrier of 1,900 USD, setting a new record of 1911.74 USD. First major technical resistance level is set at 1930 USD. It is created by a parallel line to the blue upward channel on the weekly chart. Another resistance is the psychological level of 2,000 USD... read Market Snapshot

FOREIGN EXCHANGE
EUR/USD posted an inside day with a lower close on Monday as it extends this summer's trading range. The mid-range close sets the stage for a steady to lower opening on Tuesday. Stochastics and the RSI are turning bearish signalling that sideways to lower prices are possible near-term. Closes below the reaction low crossing would confirm that a short-term top has been posted... read Forex and Related Markets Commentary

EUR/USD
Due to the low liquidity, typical for August, the pair is still in the broad consolidation pattern between 1.4580 and 1.4050. On the larger frames there is still no sign of a trend dynamics and the situation remains neutral until big players roll in.
The intraday bias is positive, well supported at 1.4434, but I expect a reversal below 1.4510 to trigger a sell-off for a break through 1.4344 major support, towards 1.4260, en route to 1.4150... read Major Currency Pairs

EUR/USD
Pressure is back on support at 1.4345, as EUR bears successfully defended last Friday's high at 1.4453. The failure to retest 1.4453 on Monday suggests a downmove towards projected support at 1.4319 is on the cards, and a wave of concerted EUR bear pressure would bring last Friday's low at 1.4258 back into the picture. Regaining ground above 1.4392 would attract gains towards Monday's 1.4434.

PREVIOUS SESSION OVERVIEW
The dollar gave up gains versus the yen made earlier Wednesday in Asia as expectations waned for measures announced by Japan to stem the yen's strength.
The dollar moved higher early in Asia following news that Japanese Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda would hold a press conference on steps to cope with the strong yen.
The actual measures announced later, however, didn't impress.. read Morning Forex Overview
