I filled out the From and the To fields too:
From: euro@gmail.com
To: relative@gmail.com
The Test return with the following Journal message:
Mail: 'Test message' failed
Mail: 501 5.1.7 Bad sender address syntax
What can be the problem? The form of my e-mail address is not correct?
I tried this form too:
To: Pamela Nixon, relative@gmail.com
I got the same results.
Hi
Try this :
- close terminal
- delete email.ini files in the MT4 config folder
- Open Terminal and re-enter only SMTP Server and From .... and To...
Phil
Oh, thank you so much dear Philippe!
It works fine!
Thank You!
Hi everyone - I am having a similar problem and I'm sure I got it to work previously years ago & yes, I have been trying it with "Enable" ticked
The only thing that I can think that is different between now and then is a different broker and running the dreaded VISTA
Oh yes, the error messge in "Journal" is "Mail: error connecting to smtp.bigpond.com:25"
Reading through forum one thought is do I have to be running Outlook on this machine as I haven't set it up on this one yet?
Could I use my Hotmail address instead?? Hotmail is not smtp though is it?
Cheers
Seth

Hotmail requires SSL which MT4 does not support... Regrading BigPond, Google gives this -> http://bigpond.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bigpond.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5562.
Thanks Gordon.
I'll have to re-read the link as my first take was I had it set up right.
If clients would just stop pestering me - lol

OK - so doing a bit more reading on this one.
There are various threads all over the forum but a consistent idea is to run your own mail server.
The two suggestions seem to be
1. http://www.softstack.com/freesmtp.html or
2. http://www.smtp2go.com/blog/smtp-server-metatrader/
Wondering if people have tried these and what their experiences are in terms of;
ease of setup, usefulness, etc.
http://www.softstack.com/freesmtp.html looks attractive in that as someone who does travel a bit I do constantly run into problems with getting Outlook to work.
So, from those that have used http://www.smtp2go.com/blog/smtp-server-metatrader/ can it do the same thing?
Come one come all - lets review these two products?????
Cheers
Seth

I went back into the smtp set-up and couldn't find anything wrong. The emaila ddress I am using is a bigpond.com address. Any help would be much appreciated :)

Dear Programmers,
I would like to ask your help about sending an e-mail.
I went to the e-mail settings (MetaTrader-->Tools-->Options-->Email) and filled out the datas:
SMTP server: mail.t-online.hu:25
SMTP login: login_name
SMTP password: login_password
When I push the Test button, I get the following message in the Journal:
Mail: invalid SMTP settings (Tools-->Options-->Email)
What can be the problem with my SMTP settings? I'm using the same datas like at my Outlook accounts.
Thank you in advance.
