Gotobi Day and Tokyo Fixing Marker is a free indicator that marks the Japanese gotobi days, the Tokyo fixing time and Japanese bank holidays on your MetaTrader 5 chart, and shows the next gotobi days in a small panel.
Gotobi days are the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th and 25th of each month and the last day of the month. When one of these days falls on a weekend or a Japanese bank holiday, it moves to the previous Tokyo business day. Many Japanese companies settle payments on these days, and the Tokyo fixing - the reference rate that Japanese banks set at 09:55 Japan time - is watched closely, especially in USDJPY. The indicator is designed for USDJPY but works on any symbol and timeframe. It is useful if you trade or test ideas around the Tokyo fixing on gotobi days, or if you simply want to know when the next gotobi day is.
What it shows
- Gotobi days: a shaded band over the Tokyo day (or a vertical line) with a label such as "Gotobi 15" or "Gotobi 20 (moved)". The tooltip tells which day it stands for and the fixing time in server time.
- Tokyo fixing: a dashed line at 09:55 Japan time on gotobi days, or on every Tokyo business day.
- Japanese bank holidays from Monday to Friday: a blue band, with the name of the holiday in the tooltip. There is no Tokyo fixing on these days.
- Panel: Tokyo time and server time, whether today is a gotobi day, the next fixing in Japan time and in server time with a countdown, and the next three gotobi days with the server time of each fixing.
How the time conversion works
- Japan time is UTC+9 all year (Japan has no summer time). The broker's server offset is found automatically: for the current week from the terminal clock (server time minus GMT), for past weeks from the Friday close of an FX symbol (17:00 New York).
- The broker's summer time rule (US, EU or none) is recognised from these weekly offsets and applied to future dates and to weeks without a Friday close.
- You can also set the offset by hand: the winter offset plus a summer time rule. The panel always shows the offset in use and how it was found.
Calendar
- Japanese national holidays are calculated by rule, including substitute holidays and citizens' holidays, so no yearly update is needed. Banks are also closed on 31 December and from 1 to 3 January.
- The calendar was checked against the Cabinet Office list of national holidays for 2026 and 2027.
Things to know
- In the Strategy Tester the terminal clock cannot be used. The offset then comes from the Friday close of the tested symbol, or from the manual offset if no Friday close is found (for example on symbols that also trade at weekends).
- Marks are drawn on D1 and lower timeframes (on D1 as one line per day). On W1 and MN1 only the panel is shown.
- Marks are kept only for the chosen number of days back and ahead: old days are removed and new days added as time passes. All objects are removed when the indicator is removed.
- The equinox days are calculated with the standard formula. The official dates are announced every February for the following year.
- The indicator does not trade and uses no DLL, no web requests and no files. It marks dates and times; it does not predict prices.
